Display:inline kind of works; you get the 'jagged' line on the right but no padding between letters and highlight
- Gordy220
What about display:inline-block ?

this is the problem:

(second paragraph has the padding)you can't get the padding on line beginnings/ends mid-paragraph
- I see, thanks a lot for trying man, I really appreciate it, if it can't be done, it can't be doneMiguex

anyone care to prove him wrong :)
I have no clue how to do this and would really appreciate the help.is this just a problem between paragraphs? I don't mind if there is no space between each paragraph (in terms of highlight) I'm happy if its all a continuous block of "highlight"

So is there a way around that? maybe using a different method?
I just want some space around the text, would it help if I post an image?

well technically everyone else got it too :)
the issue with padding is that it's an inline element, so you won't get the padding on the individual line endings or beginnings, so the first line will appear indented and only the last line will have the padding on the end.

acescence got it! you can probably tell english is not my 1st language.
anyways..
http://culturekiller.com/qbeans/…is there a way to add let's say 5px padding to that?

background-color:#0CF;
color:#000;
}<span class="highlight">even better</span>

I was wondering if anyone has some examples or where I can see highlighted text.
Not sure how to explain it, or if it's called highlight or not, basically a paragraph of text looks like it has been placed in a dynamic cell that wraps behind the text by line, not by paragraph.
Anyone knows what I'm talking about?
