here's what we have,
3M4910
they make it in large rolls and sheer it down, normally to 1/2" sections, but if you contact they guys at fellers.com they can probably send you an uncut roll. we have used this for mounting 1/4" clear acryllic to both glass and wood surfaces. anything thicker than 1/4" in direct sunlight causes the adhesive to loose it's integrity within 2-3 weeks- just because the glass is not porous. i'm not sure where we got ours, but it's actually 36", not 40" like i said last night.
it's a vhb tape, and clear.- Brilliant stuff, thanks bjladams—we've a few 3M suppliers here in Blighty I can have a look through.detritus
- ..looks a mite expensive though :\detritus
- we often ask for sample rolls of stuff for small jobs, usually free, and usually about a square yard is what they sendbjladams
- we use silicone too, no worry of that fading. but can be difficult to get the bubbles out. spread evenly- apply and cut off excess with razorbjladams
- excess with razor blade.bjladams

I spent a good wodge of money on Suction Cups just a couple of weeks back :)
My intention is to stick laser cut acrylic lettering to the inside of a window, and I think the cutting process will preëmpt some of the fiddliness associated with applying clear films (I watched a few YouTube videos on the subject last night, exciting chap that I am).
Thanks for the feedback though, tesmith!

Optically clear film is difficult to work with and generally used to "face" mount prints to clear acrylic using a mounting press. If static cling isn't suitable as in a rigid piece you can get clear suction cups with hangers. Craftily applied clear double sided tape on the corners can work if you don't mind damaging the object when removed.

i'll see if there's a product number on the stuff tomorrow, we have a roll of it, i think it's 40" will check tomorrow. send me an email if you dont hear from me to remind me.

K, I haven't narrowed it down to a specific one yet, but I think I'm looking for 'Optically Clear Mount Film'.
Thanks, all.

you could even make it into shapes when applying to surface with stencils

we've used some adhesive before that comes in a roll, like a roll on vinyl, but has wax paper on both sides. you peel one side and stick it to the object, then the other side and stick it to glass. it's about 90% effective as far as transparency- and from 7 to 10 ft away is completely unnoticeable.

To clarify—I wish to stick 'things' on to the window rather than have something made out of thin/film elements.

Static clings.

I'm looking for some kind of adhesive solution for elements of a retail display—I want to stick flat pieces on the inside of a window, but don't want the adhesive to detract from the finish, as seen from the outside. Normally I stick things to walls, so it doesn't matter what the adhesive 'looks like'.
Any thoughts? I don't know what to search for :\
My thanks to you if you can assist!
