Hey anyone know about animating bump maps / sub-polygon displacements in Cinema 4D? I'm trying to do something but hitting a problem. The camera basically treats the peak of the bump map as the focus so the base drops away when it increases. I don't know if that makes any sense...? If you can help I can drop you a movie file to explain.

Sounds like your bumpmap or displacement strength level is set to a negative value.

what are you trying to do? some pics or a scene file would help

Yeah, post a scene file.

do you want it to treat the base as the focus? like if you were to animate the scale with the axis point at the base instead of the peak?

This might help explain: (6.9Mb mov)
So, I have this bump map image of the word style displacing the object but, when I increase the displacement (in this case from 0cm to 25cm and then back) it makes the actual plane move as opposed to the word rise up.
Does that make any sense? I'd like the 'floor' to stay where it is and the word to emerge from it. Thoughts?

Obviously also you can't preview the displacement without rendering so I don't really think tracking it with the camera will help as I'd have to do it virtually frame by frame.

what does your bump map image look like?
the highest part that will be displaced should be full white. the rest should be 50% grey. anything darker than that will displace the geometry lower.

THAT is exactly what I needed to know, thank you M_C_P! My current bump is basically white on black, if I make it white on 50% grey it'll stay as is. Perfect.
Thank you! Virtual beer coming your way. Or whatever your poison.

Just an idea but changing the Type from Intensity (Centered) to just Intensity doesn't fix it by any chance?
