Holy Shit...This is crazy. A friend of a guy at work just got a macbook pro for 200 bucks. WTF!

straight up gambling.

wow... the way those auctions work warps my mind. that is a hella creative business model.

so there's a macbook air on there right now at $68, starting price was $0.01, and bid increment is $0.01. so that means that fucking 6800 bids have been placed on it so far??!?!? and each bid costs $0.60 to make?
so even if the auction ends right now, someone will get the macbook air for $68 + the cost of their bids, most bidders will be out a couple of bucks, and quibids makes off with 6800*$0.60 = $4080 minus the cost of the macbook air?
those guys are fucking GENIUSES for coming up with the concept.

In their 101 section, they state, "Usually any participant who is willing to spend 1/3 of the value of the item in bids has a great shot of winning the item." Penny auctions...heard of them but never understood until now.
- Despite the crooked aspect of the whole thing, it's still a good way to get a good deal even if you lose (Buy it now).doublespaced

That's the most intelligent thing I've seen in a while, had never heard of this type of auction before. Those guys are going very very rich in no time.

Yeah, I think http://www.swoopo.com was one of the first ones to market. Tons of clones of this idea now.
