Nice images Carsten. What you need a photography representative that specializes in lifestyle photography. Here are a few of the best in the business:

Could you not just get in touch with all the various water sports based magazines that you know via email or telephone?
- liamlennon0
this is something i tried.. but from one of them i just got the feedback, that he has no time for checking online portfolios.. so i just thought, somebody has a different plan of attack

If they're local then you could try dropping in with some work and just leave it with them?
Perhaps get in touch with their current photographers and ask how they got involved. Ask them if you could shadow them for a little while (act like a student).

well at the moment i really work with the top surfers.. there is just one final little step missing.. hopefully the photos are good enough.. but i guess im not the right guy to judge that

find the names of the photo editors at all the magazines you want to work with. send physical mailers addressed to them personally.

they can't ignore something that is sitting on their desk.

I think what bigtrick is saying is true. print some digital books and put them on the right desks. You can look at the credits of any magazine to get the photo editors name and mail it directly to that person.
There was a thread here dedicated to small print runs for photo books. I think it was called blurb.com

did you try dropping off your book out to these places your interested in? thats how modeling agency's check out models and photographers, I imagine this is how its done in the magazine world too

www.aphotoeditor.com is a useful read....
http://rising.blackstar.com/ is often good, but sometimes not....Assume this will take time, and/or suddenly happen....
I remember a certain high-end photographer once telling me that his career changed in 15 minutes when he was able to photograph Michael Jordan early in his career... You may have similar luck if you shoot a surfer who magazines want and you have the only pix....
The magazine world is very odd, I know a photo editor who said their process is almost totally random, but they don't actually pay enough to make a living, most of their photographers do magazine work in order to have tear sheets to show to commercial clients....
So, I would look at the magazine gigs as NOT the whole goal, only part of one that includes at least a few surf-oriented brands...
p.s. I would NOT have taken this post seriously if I hadn't seen the link to your work, which is good....

I've been doing this for 12 years now so here are some tips.
YOu get names of all the photo editors you want your work to appear in and you send samples of your work. Typically if they are interested in what they see, they will hit you back. Otherwise, try seeing if they have a drop off day to review work over all and leave a physical book there. It helps if you have a way in to make sure they see your work. Best of luck. But yes, typically they don't pay too well unless you are a big name doing something specific.
