the title made panasonic sound like the devil.
i mean doesn't this kind of thing happen all the time? if this product has sentimental value for you then keep it. it's very not likely for you to buy another anyways.
i bet they have a better product to replace it.

i'm sure the only reason these stuck around for so long is because of DJs. obviously that can't sustain the entire product for ever considering even Djs are now changing to digital stuff. Street value will go way up probably.

I'm not 100% convinced its not just a stunt. They floated the same rumor last year, coincidentally right before the holidays. Turned out to be bogus.
On the other hand, if everyone's using CD players and/or laptop, it does make a certain kind of sense. I guess this would also mean the end of Serato and Final Scratch?
- doesn't mean anything for scratch or serato, their sales just arn't sustaining technic salesDodecahedron
- But traditionally you would use Technics with themukit
- i don't think there is a tradition of technics and scratch just vynle DJs and technicsDodecahedron
- there plenty more turntables out there usable with scratch and obviously technics arn't selling enoughDodecahedron
- exactly.prophet
- i meant i agree with ukit.prophet
- technics can't make enough sales just because a few Djs out there using scratch with technics.Dodecahedron
- yes those are the facts but it's a hard pill to swallow...prophet
- They're probably using their old ones anyway. If someone buys scratch they have many options other than technicsDodecahedron
- Obviously the digital world has taken a huge chunk of turntable sales even with serato and final scratchDodecahedron

i have my trusty pair of silvers for 15 years, but now i'm actually considering getting a pair of black ones. i always wanted four of them and i guess this is my 'cue'... (*winks)
- How does your wife let you purchase such things? My ex would barely let me buy a controller for my laptop.Andrew_D
- "There was no way I was spending $1000+ on turntables." "You're not even a DJ"Andrew_D
- you tell her it's who you are and it's your creative outlet. ask her how much her jimmy choo's cost... 1 pair = 1 turntableprophet
- my wife actually bought me my first 1200 as a birthday gift after high school, so she was cool...prophet
- Lucky guy! All I got was grief! ;-)Andrew_D
- that comes later...prophet
- btw you don't have to spend $1k+. just look at ebay for good used pairs for like $500-600prophet
- Think I might do that post chrimbo. Got a few freelance gig's paying out then. That'll show her! ;-)Andrew_D
- here's on with a qbert needle for $350 BIN

i know there are you guys up in here who think what's the big deal?... i get that, it's 'just' a stupid turntable, get with the times man. for me it signals the end of something that represented alot in my life personally and it's sad to boot. maybe i'm getting old and nostalgic.
but the other side of the coin here is that no matter how many photos or links to other 'modern' turntables that you post, none will ever have the simple, sherman-tank, no bullshit, industrial design of a 1200. it's a beautiful thing. (*sobs)

sad, but yep, inevitable..
still got mine back at home.. but yep, didnt make the cut for things to ship to Berlin..
- autoflavour0
you gotta admit tho, they built it so well the first time, they were able to keep making the same product for the last 38 years..
