I am looking for a cheap drum trigger pad. I want to be able to use it with midi and have it trigger my own sounds.
The Octapad is way too expensive. I just need maybe 3 or 4 large triggers to hit with a drumstick hopefully for under 200 bucks.
The M Audio Trigger Finger is close but the triggers are very small, not ideal for drumsticks!

Alesis control pad! Perfect. Do you know if you can use a regular footswitch/sustain pedal to trigger the bass pedal? AKA I don't want to buy an expensive bass pedal trigger.

Okay so I am going with the Alesis control pad - now I am looking for bass drum and hi hat triggers.
is there anyway to micky mouse this shit?
I see triggers on ebay like this:

Do those work for this kind of thing? I can't seem to figure it out!

you need any kind of sensor and plug them to a drum module, this for example:

That's what I use to play live.

you don't trigger cymbals at all. I think you've got drum pad confused with drum trigger. a trigger is a small switch that gets clipped to the drum rim and presses against the drum head. It gets hooked to a midi controller and goes off when ever you hit the drum head. Mainly used by metal guys so they don't have to hit the bass drum as hard and concentrate on going fast.
Sounds like you're looking for something like this

topic reminds me of this vid...

Let me explain the setup I will have.
I will be using the Alesis Control Pad and a program similar to Ableton as the brain for it.
On the Alesis control pad there are 2 1/4 inputs for the bass drum trigger and the hi hat trigger.
I am open to a trigger that is set off by a real acoustic drum and one that is not (whether it be a pedal or something that looks more like a footswitch).
I am looking for cheap version of these things, if possible. The Roland bass drum triggers are about 100 - seems like they could be cheaper.

I got a whole set of old Roland RT triggers for £70 on eBay - They're not as isolated as the new ones but work a treat - just Piezos in isolated mounts TBH
You're right though, they are over priced. A $1 piezo on some foam on the skin and a jack socket will do the job.

those 1/4" inputs for the bass drum and hi hat are for foot pedals like the ones i posted. I've never used the alesis control pad but it seems like pretty much anything that is a momentary switch will work for it. I think Miguex said that even a sustain pedal will work. the expensive stuff is probably made to feel more like a real kick pedal. the ones i posted above are $7.69. definitely will not play like a real pedal though.
- aye, there's kick & hi-hat and two trigger inputs.kingsteven

Oh nice! Yeah those ones you posted are VERY affordable. I will probably pick a couple up.
Anyone here ever used something like that for this purpose?
