What should I use to do this. Just need to get it digital so I can archive.

Just buy one from an apple store, use it, and return it once done.

Most DV cameras have the capability to take A/V in through their A/V port. You can switch it to "A/V In" in the cameras menu and set the camera to VCR. Then you can either record the VHS straight to DV tape or capture directly through firewire into the computer. I've done both and it looks good.

^ this is what i am doing. i borrowed a friend's busted dv cam and use it solely to stream the vhs through to quicktime as dv. done deal, works like a charm. now i can watch 1992 Michael Williams on Rapcity on my ipod touch.

I've got an old Sony DV cam, and I've always wanted to start ripping VHS specifically for torrent sharing. Even for films available on DVD. Nothing the charm of a VHS rip.
Never have the time, though.
