I'm curious how they manage to split this up into two films. The Hobbit was shorter than any of the LOTR books on their own. Maybe Hobbits will be walking in slow motion

They said they would be adding some content not in the book. Whether it's completely new or from Tolkien archives, I don't know. Also, the LOTR movies were 3+ hours already leaving out huge amounts of detail. I am sure the Hobbit could easily be stretched to two, 2ish hour movies without an issue.
