i like the subject of top gun - fighter jets, and while on it's own it doesn't justify a sequel, i'm kind of interested what they could do with today's technology to make this film more visually interesting. i'm not talking anything over the top, but just getting shots/angles they couldn't get 25 years ago. the cinematography was pretty good in the dog fight scenes, but there's probably a lot more they could achieve today. and naturally, it's a safer bet to go with an established franchise, because when was the last time you saw a movie about fighter pilots in theaters?

Ok, it's rare that any movie gets applauded for a sequel. It would have to be branched off as a franchise to get any consideration. Those that do, appeal to our younger generation. Matrix, LOTR, Batman, IronMan, Harry Potter, Transformers. Kids could give a shit about an 80s character mavericking in the skies again. We the people would rather see Tron 2 as a resurrection from the 80s vs some Airforce jockeys. Top Gun should die as a legend and go no further.
