ok so maybe i mean a wysiwyg web design application?
basically a better version of iWeb is what i'm looking for, but not as complex as dreamweaver.- you'd be surprised what you can achieve with iWeb and some code snippets.... the code will be crap but work in virtually everything straight awayAmicus

you're looking for a CMS.. WYSIWYG is the box that displays the content for styling

use something like virb

i'm not looking for a c a r g o or indexhibit template...
i thought wysiwyg basically referred to the fact that i can design the website in a visual layout without any code... (apologies if i'm wrong!) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IWe…
e.g.

i like what i've seen with flux—hopefully a much-needed redesign in the next couple of weeks—and i'd like to experiment with the app.

If you want your portfolio up "asap", then I the fuck won't you use a CMS already made, insert your stuff, minimum tweaks and you could be done in 2/3 hours. Instead, you're here asking for a wysiwyg HTML editor and you don't know how to code... websites don't come out by themselves.
Anyway, you can try RapidWeaver. Never used it but it might be just what wou're looking for.

dreamweaver is good and will kind of teach you the code too

fwiw, I used dreamweaver for years, and one day decide to learn a little html. I realized dreamweaver was actually a major PIA compared to coding in a text editor.

You will not learn how to build a decent site quickly. By quickly - I mean in less than a year.
Use a hosted solution or pay someone to build you a site.
