Guy wants to trade me a Nikon D2X with a Nikon 28-200mm lens, 2x4gb SD Cards, a camera bag and some extras (two extra batteries, filters, etc.) for a 2-month old 13" Macbook Pro that I bought and never really use. I bought the MBP as a code machine so I could sit and work around the house or out and about but it turns out I have very little use for it. The camera on the other hand...
Is this a fair trade? It seems like it. Could be wrong. Got the MBP with a $100 teacher's discount too.

That's what I was thinking too. I've got an HD 23" Acer and an Apple Wireless Mouse/Keyboard. Trying to trade that up to him for another piece of glass, since he said he wanted them.

do it. before he changes his mind.

My first question is: What's wrong with the camera?

Nikon D2X = $800-900 Used
nikon 28-200 = $200-300 UsedSo I think you are not getting a fair trade because you are buying something that most likely has about 15k actuations with limited life span.

^ true, but
MacBook Pro 13" = ~$1400 used
http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-MacBoo…assuming the camera is in good condition, sounds like a fair trade to me. and lenses don't devalue like computers do, so that's largely why i consider it a very good deal for him.

nikon 28-200mm is not such a good lens either. Brand around $440.

The Macbook was exactly $1181.17 when I bought it two months ago.
The only problem with the camera is the plastic cover fell off of a button. It's an $84 fix, already had it looked at.
He's going to throw in a nice tripod and head in exchange for the monitor and keyboard/mouse (which I would have zero use for now).
Thanks for the advise, I think I got a good deal going here.

also everyone knows macs are not good for coding, dmullins says he is not using laptop that much.
make sure the photo equipment works and does it well

Dont do it... The D2X eats shit.. I used to own one and now Im back with canon.
The nikon has a 1.6 sensor. Thats like soooo 5 years ago!

It is a 2005 camera and it's not even full-frame. Was the camera used professionally? No warranty = anything breaks, the cost is absurdly high.
28-200mm lens is poor enough to cancel out some of the benefits you get from a higher end camera.

retracts previous statements. i know jack about nikon. (canon owner :D)
