OK here we go again. This is what you do.... Google this "Dutch American Friendship Treaty" . You can use that 250k capital to start a business – design practice, etc.... Life here is MUCH better than in America and the people are like that movie "Pleasantville." As for Dutch, be proactive I've seen some dumbass Americans and British live here for like 10 years ans not speak a work. Pretty stupid, huh?

Quick note on the language, my Mrs is Portuguese and I have many Portuguese friends. I consistently notice a massive improvement with their English in only the 1st 3 months of living in London.

that equates to about £160,000. Given that say London's average salary may be £37,000 on which you can exist comfortably, I think you should feel VERY comfortable in the fact that you can live for 4 and a half years without working on those figures...come on...

If you decide to come to Portugal, you can pretty much retire and do whatever you want for 5-10 years.
