Just screened this:

Scott Weinberg wrote "I think the film is tragic, sickening, disturbing, twisted, absurd, infuriated, and actually quite intelligent. There are those who will be unable (or unwilling) to decipher even the most basic of 'messages' buried within A Serbian Film, but I believe it's one of the most legitimately fascinating films I've ever seen. I admire and detest it at the same time. And I will never watch it again. Ever." [14]

This is not even a movie. NSFL. From what I understand, I suppose this is a conversation about how Serbians feel about what has happened to them in the last few decades, personified by just the most unimaginable ruination of life and family.
Too much.

I can't remember if there was a time when I was a kid where I could stomach that much terror. I feel like I could, but I'm a fuckin wimp now.

So meffid.. what were your thoughts? I'm Serbian.. I'm interested to hear from someone who saw it outside of the mindset of a Serb.
- vuc0
I'm Serbian too, and I thought it was glorified bs.. I question the sanity of the script writer.

I liked this review:
"What’s grosser than gross? That seems to be the driving force behind most of the laughable direct-to-DVD horror films that plague Blockbuster. It’s a deluded effort to trump each other with the most vulgar, depraved shit they could possibly think of in their darkest hours when the pretty girls won’t even talk to them. Chaining her to a drainpipe and sandblasting off her boobies not good enough? Let’s fuck a wound! Not far enough? Does she even need to be alive? Let’s bone a corpse! Rock on, we’re rebels, let’s go get handjobs from suicide girls, yukka yukka yuk. Well, congratulations, sirs. The game is over. A Serbian Film has defeated you all by leaps and fucking bounds. There will never ever be a more vile and disturbing sequence of events than you will see in this film. It makes Human Centipede look like a “Charlie Brown Christmas Special.” It will fucking break you. In your darkest hours, in your sickest moments, you are like Ralph Wiggum to the minds behind this film. It takes any efforts to justify torture porn with flimsy psychological tripe and tears it like Edward Norton’s anus in American History X. This is it. This is the limit that a film can go. It will fucking break you. And the strangest part is ... it’s brilliant. It takes torture porn to places it never, ever should go. It’s the ultimate torture porn — to the nth degree. It punts torture porn into Friday of next week. It eats Irish torture porn babies like cubesteak. And by pushing things that far, it completely and utterly eradicates the genre. Torture porn is dead, and A Serbian Film raped its corpse."
- It took me weeks to get over the Human Centipede synopsis. I hate horror.Bargels

Btw.. I can see why pushing this thing so far into something beyond deprived, what has been done to Serbs by it's own government, by the world, by everyone.. as one of the reviews says:
"Positioned as an allegory for the exploitation of the Serbian nation over the past two decades, director Srdjan Spasojevic is intent on avoiding the inevitable sensationalism that comes with such material. If A Serbian Film represents the sentiments of a nation that feels it's been fucked over one too many times, by the government, by employers, by neighbouring countries, by themselves then it's one extremely angry nation."

i got to the words "newborn porn" in the plot description on the wiki page and decided i could live my life, quite happily, without knowing anything further
- Ramanisky20
so is this perhaps worse than Irreversible or Antichrist?

Just another average shock film, grow some

I tried watching this movie a while ago, got about half-way through and couldn't take it anymore. I skimmed to the rest of it, just to see what I'd be missing. The dick in the eye scene was pretty funny. I couldn't believe that Srdjan Todorovic and Sergej Trifunovic, who are really good Serbian actors, agreed to be in this piece of shit.

The shock thing is a representation of what he was trying to portrait.. it's not just there for the gore.
The violence depicted in the movie is an allegory of what Serbs feel as they are being fucked by everyone. We've (as people and our families) been tortured, raped, molested by the world, abused by both own government and dictator as well as other countries and possibly forced to part-take in things we would have never wanted. Always.
The shock factor is necessary and in the end the only thing you can do, is to blow your brains out.
The lines drawn between his laps of memory, not getting what you have done because people weren't thinking straight..Fucked in the eye, blinded.
I mean.. there's a lot of things you would feel if you were born in Serbia. This is where the violence comes in.
Younger folks can't understand this as much as some of us in our mid 30s. We were most affected by this.
- Haha, I think you're giving it more credit than it deserves, I don't think they intended it to be that deep.Milan
- They were just like, "Hey, Saw and Hostel are making millions, we can top their shock factor."Milan
- dude.. fucked in the brain.. literaly? There's a meaning there right? "Jebem te u mozak" . get it?
- Boz0
for an average westerner there's maybe not so much meaning but the shock factor with this movie, though cause most people can't understand despair, feeling of dread living in Serbia in the last 20 years.
- lowimpakt0
have we really confronted crimes against humanity?
- epic_rim0
Boz, that was kind of what I was looking for. Thanks for the insight.
It seems no one can really understand the violence, the true brutality that Serbs must have felt, unless it is literally rammed like an erect penis directly through the eye into the brain. Without the historical context, though, I'm not sure how many American's will understand the movie, because it gets passed around here like a dirty magazine.
- yes.. he took what you would use to describe something like you did and literally showed it to you on the screen.Boz
