what light are you using now?

think ive sorted it.
There is a light type cryptically called 'Sun', which seems to be it. Very misleading indeed.
- loling, very misleading.pastpastdue

quite. either use that (which you can control the TOD and lat/long of where the scene should be), or a huge area light.
- the TOD thing is a bit annoy (but useful clearly), id rather just position properly.Hombre_Lobo
- yeah, it *can* be useful if you're trying to match some live action footage, but I haven't ever gotten that good of a result.DoTheMacarena

i still get the same problem, shadows are not near parallel. Thats with the sun positioned 10000000m away.
the image above is using a spot light.

a huge area light?
lets see...
- DoTheMacarena0
yeah, try a huge area light, sizing down your scene, or lighting with GI
- if those don't work, someone else on here for sure knows more than I do.DoTheMacarena

a huge area light gave me crazy messed up shadows.
i might have to do individual lights for each object... sigh!
- what do you have the shadows set to? shadowmaps, raytraced, or area?DoTheMacarena
- raytraced soft, 1500x1500 - to match scene.

Yeah, sounds like you need Global Illumination w/ the Advanced Render module. Not for sunlight, but GreyscaleGorilla has a great HDRI kit as well.

yeh ive seen GSG HDRI kit, looks great.
but i didnt think global illumination was necessary for sunlight mimcing.
cheers for link dude :)

Yeah I have that HDRI kit also, it comes in really handy. I end up using the pre-built softboxes and spots more than anything else.
Give the GI a shot if you have the advanced render module. c4d has some outdoor HDRIs built in, not sure if there's anything with a hotspot, though.

CS Tools has a daylight prefab, give that a shot

add a new light and under the general tab look for type: infinite. use the rotation of the light to change the angle of the simulated sunlight
