Before digging into a redesign of my website and planning for a revamping of my business within the next year, I'm thinking about the name and whether it's worth keeping. What I don't know, and am not sure how to find out one way or another, is what kind of equity (if any) I have with the current name.
Metagramme vs. Studio Steel.

I see the newbs don't know Matt...
... and that should answer your question, Sir. :)You're known for your work... ... not your name.
As for your choices - I don't mind your original name at all... ... but your new name is borderline porno... ... which may be a good thing?
- borderline gay porno maybe... maybe not a good thing..hehePonyBoy

hey bud,
I might consider looking into your proccess for your answer. Your work is very process and research heavy. There might be some possible name buried in that somewhere. What is it that you do better than anyone else - that could be a good starting place too

FYI: his actual last name is "Steel"

Yes, for those who don't know me, my last name is Steel. And yes, I've heard the porn jokes ad nauseum since high school.

All I can say is, leave the same sort of large-format presentation of your work on the next site.
What does it for me is the refined simplicity of the design, and the (frankly) dead-sexy photography of your work.

imo
metagramme works good enough.
studio steel wins vs. metagramme.
personally I find firstname/lastname is most often the best solution.
I donĀ“t think that the name is that important anyway.
- Continuity0
Well, the name kind of is important, insofar as if you choose to operate under a name you're not 100% comfortable with, it's going to be exceptionally difficult to get behind that brand; and this sends a pretty negative signal to prospective clients.
