- Speaking of embarrassing...pleas... forgive me. It's been a long day. A proper crit would be...luckyorphan
- ...It's regretable that more time was not spent on making this illustration more professional.luckyorphan
- the drawings were meant to be whimsical, I think Dana did a great job with them, perhaps it's a matter of taste...
StudioLin - Whimsy is achieved...but the anatomy has fallen apart. My apologies to Dana, btw. She didn't deserve that.luckyorphan
- If you want to see an anatomically correct image of a hand go look at a photograph.
ddavisrisd - it get's the story across and doesn't need to any more.jaylarson
- I'm more put off by the kerning..neue75_bold

Regarding the site, I wouldn't sweat the negative crits that aren't backed up with specifics. Many designers on here don't like to stop and do a little work, so they get upset if they have to look for a menu for longer than two seconds. That being said, I'm not sure that the design is as effective as it could be.
But if you would indulge a few notes...
It's hard to tell what ideal window size you've built for (seems like 1120x850). On one hand, the top nav gets a little lost on larger monitors (I'm on my 17" MBP). And when I get into the sections of the site (sorted by type - nice touch), the preview imagery appears a little small, and too washed out to get a preview out of it. But then when I reduce my window size, all of the image information scales and comes closer together, making it even harder to notice the top nav. Perhaps consider some other design element that will make it clearer to the user that the nav is there?
One other issue is that it's impossible to return home without re-entering the original URL or hitting that unfortunately un-designed 'Back' button at the top-middle as many times as needed to get back to the home page. While it's nice to just get lost and explore the work, sometimes it's nice to return home to re-read some of the news and see what's being promoted. And with regards to that back button, it seems like everything is so nicely designed, except then you get a default button in the top of the page. I assume that's intentional, but it's not working for me.
All of this should be taken under the overall hugely complimentary umbrella which congratulates you for your outstanding folio and work. But in the end, I have to split the difference. Great work, decent site, but it doesn't showcase your studio's work as effectively as it deserves. I find that I'm just paying so much attention to the nav and layout that I'm being taken out of reviewing the work.
Perhaps it's just me.

Hi luckyorphan, thank you very much for taking the time to post that insightful crit of the site. It's been hard putting aside time to work on the site, which obviously needs re-thinking, but I'll definitely take your comments seriously.
- My pleasure. And please take my drawing crit with a huge grain of salt. Kinda wanna take that back.luckyorphan

why you posting here?

so much yale work looks the same, all good, but similar ironic typefaces and gradients. not weird enough. not enough hand done.
- Interesting that there is such a strong Yale stigma here...I graduated from there almost 10 years ago and current "Yale" almost feels alien to me...Not sure what you mean by ironic typefacesStudioLin
- cont'd work feels a bit alien to me...Not sure what you mean by ironic typefaces....StudioLin
- ironic typefaces are over stylized or retro. often neon colors on white.fredddddd

Ironic typefaces?
Wouldn't you agree, freddddd that the context in which they are used determines that?- juxtapositions don't necessarily indicate irony.lukus_W
- unless you are speaking to some topical matter, what else would give an object irony?identity
- I reckon use of the word 'irony' has become shorthand for superficial complexity.lukus_W
- Then again, maybe it's just a cliche way to deride something as 'originating from a hipster sensibility'.lukus_W
- probably right on that...
Irony has lost its gravityidentity - The word still means the same thing, it's just that most people use it incorrectly.gramme

"Irony consists in stating the contrary of what is meant." I always attempt to use typefaces that are as close to the meaning of the content as possible. Let's move beyond using the word "ironic" as a substitute for "hipster-ish."

I like the variety in your portfolio, but I would have to agree that your site is a bit frustrating to navigate through. There seems to be a 3 second pause everytime I click on a different link which makes me not want to go through the entire site .
