Does that argument hold true for other mediums, such as painters?
- it doesn't seem to, no. lots of twig'n'berries in classical paintingsbigtrick
- so if no, whats different about photographers?plash
- Photography is more interactive with the subject, I would think. You don't have to have a physical person in thejuhls
- room to paint them. Makes things less uncomfortable.juhls
- exactly - i would think there would be no difference. i'm finding it hard to prove though.bigtrick

This topic just made me think of actors and how many of them do not get tied up with their co-stars the same way their characters may intertwine on-screen. And some do and we hear about it. Just thinking about the percentage of actors willing to do gay scenes...
- I don't know what this has to do with anything. Just thinking out loud...juhls
- Basically, I was thinking about how a very small percentage of men would actually be comfortable with it.juhls
- I reckon most people are a bit bisexual (if they're honest with themselves). Maybe that scares a lot of people.lukus_W

I bet theres lots of gay porn and half nude male fashion models shot by straight guys. I'm going to start a photo blog called 'Dudes Shot by Dudes'

It all comes down to this.
Yes bigtrick, those nude photos you took of CALLES make you a gay.

Yeah, but in classical paintings what does nudity represent (masculinity and/or innocence). 2000 years ago two guys wrestling in the nude was heroic and masculine, they had nothing to hide it was that time, but have to olympic wrestlers grapple on the mat in the nude today and it would most certainly be defined as gay.
Again, if you were taking pictures of men in this position how " artsy " could you make that shot. It is not really art as it is portraying an event, which would not be sexual. However, nude art IMO is sexual because of the very essence of art which is emotion and not static.
Showering with other men in prison or at the gym is not gay nor is there much emotion behind it (I call it static nudity it's just there and does not excite emotion), unless you have a small penis then you're SOOL. If you had a camera and took a picture of the showering it would be just that.
Art is not the same, art can be static nudity, but you have to remember our culture and society in this day and age. When someone is nude it most probably is associated with sexual emotions.
- Some good stuff here. Although, I think many men still see wrestling as something that is "manly".juhls
- I think wrestling naked with another guy has always been a bit gay. The Greeks and Romans loved it.lukus_W
- I often wonder how different decades would react to seeing Viggo fight guys in the nude (A History of Violence) :)juhls
- I generally think people in the past would think we're a bunch of prudes. The Victorians had a lot to answer for.lukus_W

as a male photographer who shoots primarily females, and who has been in the modeling/photographer/art world for quite a while.. i can tell you yes, it is motivated by personal attraction and sex, and it's pretty shitty how things have gotten in the "art" world lately. the art and photography world has exploded with sex and erotic content, and it's become way too much.
I wrote more about this a while back here:
http://www.anthonywallace.com/ne…- But can't motivation vary from photographer to photographer?lukus_W
- nice to see you posting, anthony. interesting news entry, too. you might like this: www.tuanhbui.com > "allure"bigtrick

For once it looks like we are giving some thoughts here!
My humble contribution here...
A female photographer that I used to work with does a lot of glamour photography (and she loves it) but also has loads of pics of burly lads. As far as I can remember she's straight.
that's her shooting a girl
that's shooting a boyAlso, one of my photography teachers does a lot of nudes. Certainly not all are sexual. There's a great pic of a couple, really expressive and everything but sexual.
Sorry, no tinyURL today.
- I like the last photo a lot, it's true - the naked body doesn't need to be sexualised .. we're just conditioned to think so.lukus_W

If you only take photos of unattractive naked people, the problem would be solved maybe?

The difference between porn and art?
The lighting.

you're overthinking it.

For me there's sexual attraction and the attraction I have for a subject I find beautiful for artistic reasons. When I was younger, I would photograph women I ultimately wanted to bone (I'm such a poet), but I was often disappointed with the photo. Good for the bed didn't always translate into good for my camera.
I actually have a shoot later this month, guys and girls. Will post a few.
The first pic is from a gallery show featuring nudes as art. The second is sort of an example of where I'm headed with my nudes.
blah, blah, blah...bl
