I used to have an Altec Lansig 2.1 set on my desktop. Great sound, cheap as hell, massive woofer...
I check some reviews and the new models are crap, so not sure what to get.
What speakers do you use? Should I go through the hassle of getting an amp and studio speakers?
Any suggestion will be appreciated!

Keep the sub and put it under your desk, get good quality treble/mid range speakers to put on the desk.
For cheap and cheerful I like the X-mini II's though not tried with a woofer

Best desktop audio setup you will probably ever own. If 2 satellites isn't enough dish out for the 5.1
Also note: They're listed at $149.99 - I found mine on sale at a best buy for $110. You could probably shop around to find a better price.

Bose Champions are $99 and the sound is quite titillating. Two RCA inputs in the back, and a headphone input on front. Small, sleek and good freq range.

Of course, if we're being silly and don't consider how we might keep them clean
