Got about the same shit here. After what I would have said was one of my most successful interviews.
Hi [me]-
I wanted to update you on the status of our search for a new Designer. After a lengthy search and much deliberation and consideration, we have offered the position to the candidate that best suited the position, and they have accepted.[owner] and [account manager] very much enjoyed meeting you and were impressed with your work. We appreciate the time and effort you put forth to do the interview.
Your application for the position will be kept confidential. We wish you all the best in your career and at [where I work]. As discussed, we have high regard for everyone there, and the work and wish you well.
Regards,
[receptionist]- feels pretty copy and paste, but the interview lasted a few hours and was more a chat if anything elsetymeframe

sorry to hear that mate, I'm also on the hunt and it's proven difficult for me too this time, good luck
- fredddddd0
sorry, thats the worst kind of rejection. can you take things off your resume?
- I'd been thinking of that too, but then I'd have some pretty inexplicable gaps in my CV.Continuity
- say a family member got sick and you had to take care of them. make something upiCanHasQBN

I guess it's a good idea to discuss salary range and so on before hand.

been there mate...
all you can really do is keep looking, keep your chin up and eventually something's going to work out... unfortunately it might take a lot longer than you'd hoped..

I don't think that too much of a negative feedback.
From what I've heard from design recruitment people that I've been in touch with recently, studios are all reluctant to hire permanent staff at the moment. there's lots of senior freelance work, but it will be another 6 months before companies are ready to invest in full time seniors again

Cheers, fellas.
Honestly, though, at this point, I'll try out any sensible change of approach; obviously my current strategy isn't accomplishing much.

I've experienced that in Texas for the last couple of months. They want to pay really low.... I don't see how that computes when being in big cities.
- megE0
I sympathize with you... I did 9 months, over 200+ applications filled out/jobs applied to, about 20 'sorry' responses, 2 interviews, 1 offer...
- SigDesign0
I hear you... It's the same for me, like being middle aged or something... too old or too young...
- toe_knee0
Sorry to hear it bud. It is kinda lame, but.... I had to turn down someone for being to senior today. Sure the person might say they are willing to work a more junior role, but when someone wants a junior they are looking for someone they can mould into a position.

its tough out there still right now. hold in there and things will change soon

Don't loose hope man, you do nice work.
Sometimes you just dont click at the right time, or the shop might be too small to what you are looking at.One thing you did that I liked is to offer "a more jr position" as you call it, instead of taking a pay cut, you asked for a cut on responsibilities, I never thought about that before.
I think we've all been there, being a freelancer I'm in that situation all the time, you have no idea what people think design is worth sometimes, including FREE.
- Cheers, mate. Funny though, I always thought the implication with taking a more jr role would be a salary cut. :DContinuity
- yes, but a salary cut with less responsibility, not keeping the responsibility and no cashola for it.Amicus

How's this the worst kind of rejection? They kindly tell you they don't have a job for you, a lot of companies don't bother answering at all.
- Most don't answer, in my experience. And I don't see this as the worst kind, just frustrating.Continuity

Fuck em... Just keep going mate!
Unless your evil it will turn out alright in the end.GOOD LUCK
- Unless the struggle turns you evil, in which case you are fucked.Orbit

- @Continuity.BoneCrusher

- Your opinion, of course.Continuity
- He is a "bone crusher"jteore
- Indeed he is, yet I feel remarkably un-crushed.Continuity

Phil, are you able to work in Canada? Seems like you were on the east coast before. I'm leaving a senior position at my studio which is still vacant.
- If ya wanna live in Toronto.Andrew_D
- Yeah, I'm a Canadian, though I'll be honest, this is the side of the pond I want to be on. :DContinuity
- Thanks for the tip, though, I appreciate it.Continuity
- No worries, matey.Andrew_D
- Although I see you have a London office ...Continuity
- Boss just saw your stuff and liked it, let me know if you change your mind.Andrew_D
- Ahhh...whoops! Not at that company anymore. I need to change that.Andrew_D
- That was two jobs ago, but I'm going to the Jays game tonight with them (1meth) and will inquire.Andrew_D
- Awesome, that'd be fantastic.Continuity

The creative pool is like an hour glass. Lots of Juniors at the bottom... seniors at the top... and very few in-between. Sounds like this might be your problem Continuity
