just a curious question...how many of you guys use the Wacom tablet and how many stick to the mouse when using Adobe programs?
For those who use the Wacom tablet, are there any benefits using it to do design and would you advise someone to switch?
The people using the Wacom tablet, do you use it for like everything? (photoshop, illustrator, after effects, etc...)

I use a mouse to draw in AI everyday. Can't get the feel for a tablet - though if a portable laptop version of the Cintique touchscreen came out I'd be interested. Maybe iPad 2.0.

I couldn't get used to the tablet, due to the fact that I'm left handed to write but I use the mouse w my right hand, so when I had the chance it just felt incredibly strange.
I guess the benefit would be no carpel tunnel.

I once bought a tablet and I have to say it is very different... I realized that I am much more skillful using a mouse and I didn´t have the patience to stick to the tablet and gave it to a friend... she used it as a substitute for a mouse till the pen fell apart... so: first get a small/cheap one and see if you can adapt to it...

being comforatble with Wacom use is not an immediate thing. I use it for everything from photoshop to writing emails but it took a while to get used to. Tricky thing is we are trained to be lazy... a mouse or trackpad requires barely moving but a few inches in any direction. A wacom (and the bigger the better for ease and accuracy) requires moving your whole arm so a lot of people have trouble with the transition. I work in a studio where most of the designers use them but a handful still prefer the mouse as they just can't get over the adjustment period.

Tablet. I don't actually own a mouse.

Microsoft Intelli Mouse, and borrow a Cintique for sketching or matte painting when required.
The Wacom is uncomfortable for me. There is a disconnect between looking at the screen and using the device on the desk. Always had to turn it at an angle coupled with wrist pain. The Cintique resolved those issues for me, and a good friend of mine.
- I can relate to this, never owned a cintiq but I've tried it before and felt amazingMiguex

Unless I'm actually drawing/sketching, I greatly prefer using a mouse. 100x faster and more accurate for me.

Mouse, but now that I am editing a ton of photos a Wacom is looking pretty nice

a tablet is a pain in the ass unless you're an illustrator or photo retoucher.

tablet.
I've never been able to do work as effectively, unless with a tablet. The mouse seems more of a hinderance now.

Tablet at home (MBP trackpad can't hack it), mouse at work. It took me a long time to get used to a tablet.
