Does anybody here own one? Anybody have any brand or model recommendations? Looking into a starter setup. Something sub $500 would be ideal.

I have one, Gerber GSX+, what kind of work do you want to get into? I've heard allot of negatives on the cheaper machines tracking when plotting large files.

Looking to do anything from small stickers to installation pieces (mostly tiled/patterned work). It's a hobby for now. Speed/quantity probably isn't as much of a necessity as is quality/precision. That Gerber looks amazing but expensive. Will keep my eyes peeled at auctions etc.

Was looking in to something like this: http://www.amazon.com/USCutter-V…
A plotter that could cut would be cool.- watch for plotters that need specific software to operatechris_himself

I've heard mixed reviews over Sign Warehouse's vinyl plotters. I own one of their VinylExpress 24" plotters and it's a workhorse.
http://signwarehouse.com/index.h…It sounds like your looking into doing the same things I'm doing with my plotter, stickers, installations, etc. It's pretty fun and you can make as much money as you want.

chris what type of vinyl work are you doing?
- chris_himself0
Pretty much all signage, I run a Gerber Edge II as well, lot's of architectural type signs; directories, suite signs, lobby signs etc. but also; decals, vehicles, interior/exterior signs, window graphics, murals...

Thanks for the info, guys. Going to take a few days to get into the vernacular and check these sites out. Forums ahoy!

Hey, Chris - I don't suppose you know of any vinyl-free "Vinyl" products, do you? Similar quality thin plastic and film, with or without backings, that don't contain any nasty chemicals?
- chris_himself0
Not that I recall, I've seen substrates, ink and vinyl material for heat pressing that are, but no eco friendly multi-colored vinyl for plotting.
- aye, it seems like a fairly rare product - I've seen hints, but little of substance. Thanks, man.detritus
