No freelance opportunities at the moment I'm afraid.
Ideally looking for a developer with a well-rounded skillset > PHP, MySQL, .NET etc. AS3 skills would be considered a bonus but there's no position for a pure flash developer at the moment - sorry!
Who was Number 1? OgilvyOne. That's set to change this year ; )

Ha ha yes mate! HK is in need to an arse-kick into the 00's in terms of digital and web. It's happening, but very slowly. Can be a very rewarding and totally frustrating experience, especially when dealing with clients who cannot see past the 'WHIZZ BANG' effects of flash.

Heh, nah Ben - it's just what I like to call the 'Magpie' effect. Clients here see a 'shiny' name (Oglivy), and cling to it, even if it does nothing for them.
Oh and apologies for our website folks - it is so shockingly out of date in terms of work, especially digital and web stuff.

Shanghai is pretty entertaining. I think we face a pretty different set of problems here though.
There's been a big shift from having 100% international clients/work to having more and more local clients. but mostly we're still trying to work out how to price. There are local agencies here charging 5 million for a Logo, and foreign run companies like ours doing websites for 5000.

Ah the pricing roller coaster! A definite difference doing business on the mainland as opposed to here. But in both, very little care, attention or trust is given to the value of good design, or the process that must be followed.
For sure, there's a lot of corporate companies out here, but they by no means throw money at you for nothing - they expect metrics, and if we're very lucky have a marketing department that know and care about KPI's and ROI.
I would say in terms of accountability and expectations Hong Kong is about 2-3 years behind the rest of the world with digital/web. As someone previously mentioned up till now it's very much been about throwing a flash website up with very little thought given to how it might fit in to a broader campaign or marketing strategy.
Probably about half my job is client education, and trying to make them understand that 'viral' marketing isn't a strategy or tactic, and that usability and user-centric design and processes opens the door to success for *any* project.
I would say in Hong Kong having a broader range of services has been great at getting us work we may not have gotten otherwise. For example many of our custom publishing contracts have benefited from applying a broader digital strategy and vice versa.

That HK is two or three years behind in digital really surprises me, considering the raw number of international clients/companies there. I would have thought their being there would have precipitated the marcom scene to stay abreast with everyone else, and even innovate.

Yeah it kind of blew my mind too when I got back here a couple of years ago. Innovation? Forget it - clients only want to know about what has been done successfully before by their competition.
Mention anything new/radical and they get cold feet. Nobody here wants to take a risk and be responsible for 'angering their boss'. I've personally be involved in and driven 3 stellar pitches that would have been not just amazingly successfully, but also incredibly fresh and new for the region, only to be shot down because there wasn't enough attention given to a sodding events tent or roll-up banner.
Seriously, that's how fickle it is here.
Am I selling this job or what!

On the upside, as a new market shanghai is definitely an exciting place to be working right now. A lot of opportunity for creative work and experimenting. low risk, high reward. but it's easy to get caught up in the day to day moving project to project and reading QBN.
I notice you quite wisely keep your distance these days!

Digital/Web work in Shanghai!
We (http://www.threaddesign.com.cn) are looking for a web designer and web developer for full time work in Shanghai.....
sorry, stealing your post.
actually we're not hiring. we've just spent our budget on an account manager. And next we're thinking of getting a strategy person to advise clients on events tents and roll up banners.
