Film Making Course

Hey guys, my brother in law is looking at studying film making and wants to get into the industry from a writing and directing capacity.
I want to help him but could only find these sites:
which all seem to be selling and not helping work out the best route into film making.
So I call upon the great wisdom and creativity of you guys. Oh and by the way, he is in the UK.

I think Westminster is pretty good for film studies in London.
If not the best place (in LDN).

just do a Tarantino - work in a big video store - watch thousands of films and write, write, write... not sure a film education is really necessary.

Avoid vocational courses (like from SAE or London Academy), especially if he wants to get into the writing or directing side. A film studies degree is a much better starting point,
