I don't think it can be called a rip - as they haven't blatantly stolen your code / graphics. They've copied an interface idea .. but that shouldn't be a problem - if it was possible to stop people copying ideas (via idea 'ownership'), we'd be living in a pretty sick society.
Your site's much nicer - don't worry.

Homage.
you should be honored.

Perhaps my description of rip is wrong? Didn't know that meant code and all... But when someone says they copied the layout and behaviour then i believe it is a copy... As other than the code, the only difference is they have their own info in there, which at least you'd hope they'd have? Surely!
Ive built the sites for what are believed to be the best special fx company, best editors and the best audio designers all in the film and commercial arena, and 3mills are very close and work with them... So don't want people thinking I did it, as it isn't very good. And that industry is even more incestuous that online.
- If you feel strongly about it .. write a blog post giving a 'nod' to the site and a disclaimer.lukus_W

I wouldn't say it's a rip as the coding is completely different, but it's definitely a copy. They have clearly sat down and said 'we want to make a blue version of this website'.
Threemills is clunky, and the navigation on yours works much better. I love the way the 'selected'arrows slide out with the pages on yours.

I dunno, the functionality is not something new, the design not something really new either.
I do like it, though, but I am betting we could find a dozen more sites just like this that aren't a 'rip'. Just too many chances for things to look similar when you are dealing with standard design solutions, like expanding menus or sliding transitions.
(I am using both on our new website, but I started the redesign over 2.5 years ago.....)

THE PIRACY PARADOX
http://www.newyorker.com/talk/fi…can i ask is this rip effecting you by you losing your clients in any shape or form or is this a rip that is effecting you thru theft of layout? i am not understanding what i am seeing.. as an outsider to web... i am not sure what is being ripped and and what is being effected.. to you that is.. is this rip using your work that you made for another client or or are we just taking layout and colour.. i mean the final end product is a web page.. so everyone in the internet has the same product.. what exactly is ripped?
if they did rip your layout but never took away your clients or effected your work flow why do you even care??
please explain.. and if you need to push this back on me please read the article as i deal with this on my work daily.. and it is part of the industry.. except it and move on with your work..as reality is you arent getting effected by this other than pride.. or they did steal all your clients and all your work and now you cant do nothing..
send them a cease and desist letter from a lawyer and have them take down the stolen/ rip/ layout site..
- someone charged money by recreating something I had made, without having to spend time with R+Dmust_dash
- but did you lose anything? im sorry you got ripped but still you didnt lose anything did u?e-pill
- so not spending time as you say is the reason behind your anger?e-pill
- arent all web source codes available to everyone? like its public... cant you hide it?e-pill
- i mean if you have all your work displayed out the way it is and then someone takes it..e-pill
- and remakes for their version and then you find out shouldnt you be happy?e-pill
- i mean someone noticed you and decided to make your work better.. advancing it..e-pill
- this.. bothers you? for me when someone take a product i made and makes it better..e-pill
- well i guess its hard to justify it when all the info is available for anyone..e-pill
- do you have anything that states no one can use your website layout w/o permissione-pill
- i mean something with a trademark or copyright to your R&D?e-pill

liked the work on the original site, but found the 'rip' site a bit easier on the eyes, as far as being a container for showcasing design...
as others have said, side-scrolling is hardly original, although i like side-scrolling site quite a bit...at the end of the day, i didn't get much of a 'rip' feeling as i did an 'inspired by' vibe....
i mean, how many folks here have seen a site online and in one way or another tried to do something atleast a little bit like it?
in short, everyone here.
I've done work and months later seen sites that were very similar as well, but it just doesn't bother me that much...the main reason being, i'm hoping they do something clever in return, so i can rip them back ;)(lol, ok..that last bit was a rip from something Lemmy from motorhead said in an interview once ;)

it's a rip, the code sucks (navigation is not smooth)
- dMullins0
Either way, they ripped the layout and behavior. It's a rip. 3Mills Studio sucks.

- OK. I can see this. KIND OF.duckofrubber

"The underlying structure of the site was completely ripped... the tech behind it and the foundation that holds everything in place - all ripped...
... changing out fonts and adjusting css is nothing more than applying a new paint job to a car you stole."wtf are you talking about, code is completely different. It's like saying a ferrari ripped a yugo since they both have 4 wheels use an internal combustion engine and move in a forward motion.
- not that the 3 mills site is a ferrari or anything._niko
- <<<duckofrubber
- it looks to me like they stripped shit back... turned certain things off and attempted to make it their own...PonyBoy
- ... point being... they DID NOT start from scratch on this.PonyBoy
- If your conscience allows you to snake someone else set-up and hack it back till it's 'yours'... so-be-it. :)PonyBoy

your site just hangs and never finishes loading for me. the nav is there but does nothing, kinda confusing. progressive enhancement...
- BonSeff0
i want to see you mime the rip. wtf.
- OSFA0
Yeah... I think it is... Send them an email... let us know what they say and we'll have the torches ready either way
- fyoucher10
It's a rip but I wouldn't worry about. Like ideaist said, take it as flattery. Now, if they were submitting it to awards, reselling the design, getting public props, shit like that (which obviously they are not)...then maybe I'd say something. When I look at your site, I'm more interested in your work, your site is merely a container.
