nah... i'm doing a job for someone whose client is with Zen, so I can't contact them directly... chinese whispers... arghhh

Erm, not being patronizing but you need the database host's IP address, and probably a username and password. Is that what you meant?
Some hosting companies put mysql on a separate machine, others put it on the same machine as the web server, your client should have all the details.

try to get to the control panel for your client's installation. MySQL administration usually can be accessed from there.
