My MBP takes 50 seconds to go to sleep. I've tried PRAM. Can't face ANOTHER Apple Care call. Any suggestions?

How long does shutdown take? With 8Gb (?) and lots running it'll take some time to write everything to disc, wakeup is supposed to be instant.
