Is there any way at all to suck down a Wordpress theme? I shopped out a site to be done in WP to a slice freelancer. He finished up, and suddenly wants to charge me 4x the agreed price. Now he has my deposit, and my project files held captive.

refuse, grab the site css and recreate the .php files yourself, name and shame him here and everywhere you can on the internet, make sure his name is mud.
- I'm going to do this. Not sure why I didn't just think of this. My anger blinded me.dMullins

ask him for the FTP user/pass
- gobshite0
Is it on your server?

contract?!
- dMullins0
Don't ever use Elliot Strauss for Wordpress slicing. He is a scoundrel, and a thief with no morals, professionally or personally.
He has put me up against a wall with my client, and I have to do double duty to get things back in order, and EAT $200.
- bigtrickagain0
link to his site/portfolio? email address?
- dMullins0
There is no real contract. The project was setup via a "tell us about your project" web form. We talked on Skype, agreed to a price, and now the price has quadrupled with no extra pages or anything added.
The only thing that has been added is HIS DUMBASS HAVING TO FIX THE SITE FOR IE7/8 (not even IE6!!!). He is claiming that because he had to troubleshoot CSS for IE7/IE8 that's an extra cost—ROFL, what a scrub, right?
- bigtrickagain0
wait, you already paid him $200?

login to the admin > themes >edit> copy and paste all files listed there, create new theme folder on new site server with your new install on it....think this should work
- mmmm good thinking. do this quick before he takes down the filesbigtrickagain
- dMullins0
The files are on his staging server. I don't have access.
Yes, I paid a $200 deposit for an $1000 WP site build (with five uniquely laid out pages). This is pretty standard for most of the slicing services I've seen, except for a handful. Anyone who doesn't work on a deposit for this type of work is a moron. People front-load these service bureaus with a project, then price shop, then never complete the project.
- can you do what Christa suggested? login via WP and snitch the files?bigtrickagain
- you can claim any excuse - say yes you'll pay or whatever, so long as you get wp admin accessbigtrickagain

Haha, oh shit. He moved the WP folder into the project's parent directory (it was elsewhere before, and protected). I just Sitesucked it all. Woot. Will have to rebuild the PHP files, but that's easy enough.

I'll never go to Elliot Strauss for anything
- bigtrickagain0
So... he wanted to charge you $4k instead of $1k because he made sure the CSS was IE-compatible...?
- ukit0
Elliot Strauss, you just f*cked with the wrong bunch of anonymous graphic designers on a forum on the internet
- melq0
The use of this forum to slander people drives me up a wall. Sludge on, you gravy diamonds.
- slander implies that the accusations are false. just saying.bigtrickagain
- Your note implies there's only one side to this story. Just sayin'.melq
- the logical conclusion to your post is to not say anything at all - which is counter to the purpose of a board.bigtrickagain
- I'm saying bitch if you want, but naming names on a site frequently indexed by Google is inappropriate.melq

They seem to be running rampant these days I just got burned by one name Roger Stringer. Not to hi-jack your thread but to add to the shit list of dev's that give the good ones bad names.
- slinky0
he will forever be called Smelliot Strauss 'round here!
- dMullins0
Roger Stringer sounds like a real ball licker.
