I'm going to be getting a new MAC for my office, and I will still need to be running some windows applications for work.
I'm wondering which of the programs works best for running Windows on a MAC.
I know of the major ones (bootcamp, parallels and VMware Fusion)
Just wanted to see what everyone else would recommend.
Thanks

VMWare

unless you're running games, either parallels or fusion will do the trick. there's not much to debate

virtualbox.org works fine and is free

there's one open source, never tried it but read interesting reviews about it.
virtualbox

I use parallels, and I would say that it is dog slow. I would go with Fusion instead.

I use VMWare Fusion and am happy with its performance.

Having used Parallels, VMware Fusion and Virtualbox...Virtualbox is easily the winner in my mind. It seems to consume less resources and is noticeably faster.

Bootcamp

Presumably, your workplace has shitloads of Windows licenses? Just fire up Bootcamp, create a new partition on your Mac, install windows alongside MacOS, and you're done.
You save your employer money by not having to buy new software, and you save yourself a lot of headaches.

ive got parallels... but running windows in a window while in osX is tooo slow for anything else other than email... just go the bootcamp route everyone is mentioning and boot to the OS you need

bootcamp. I run paralles tho, i just use it for Blend and it works out pretty good for window 7. but if i ad to run CS on the windows side i'd be fukked

What kind of Mac? if it's an i5/i7 with 4Gb or more then it should be fine. My choice was Parallels, which I paid for rather than use Virtualbox. VirtualBox is OK (sort of) but it lacks the management tools and polish of Parallels and Fusion.
- i have a MBP with 4G RAM and parallels is *acceptable* in XP, but unusable in Vistaheavyt

i use boot camp every day...in fact since i am constantly using 3d software (3ds max) i use windows on my mac pro more often than osx. the only problems i have had involve fan control on the windows side being disabled, something useful when rendering.

windoze 7

Bootcamp 100%. Wouldn't even bother with any virtualisation software within OSX.
Win7 runs beautifully on the Mac.

I use VMWare at work to test compatibility in IE and it's slow as hell when any other resource-intensive app is running.

There's some weird stuff with VMWare Fusion, I think it depends on how you set it up. On my Mac Pro it ran like crap, hogged all the resources, took forever to start up BUT on my MacBook Pro it's alot lot quicker and doesn't hog system resources.
- The Mac Pro is a better spec, I dont really know why it runs so poorly.imnotaplumber
