i am still waiting for the conclusion of this riveting tale

I've met lots of people with a good eye and design sense who were not graphic designers by trade. I've also met some really awful graphic designers. Maybe the sisters logo was just picking the right typeface and color and the designer was going balls out with weird fonts and filters.

Tell her to tell her boss she's not a designer and she is not capable of producing all these materials and a logo. That's whay there are professionals out there that do this for a living, 'like my brother'. I hope you didn't consider helping her...
She can tell her boss she could draft the blueprints for their new office, start doing the company's accounting or handling all the HR and legal department duties tho....

I have to disagree with OSFA - there was *something* in the ms paint stuff that was good enough to catch the boss' eye, right? So why not encourage her design sensibilities rather than squash them? Yeah, she's untrained, but that doesn't mean that she can't be trained.
- is she really into design or is this something she just wants to fuck around with... if that is the case it isnt fair for designersOSFA
- I can make a killer argument against any case or draw a bad-ass building... could I actually do it with someone watching over my shoulder?OSFA
- simply watching over my shoulder or encouraging me? Nope. Now, if she really wants to go for it.. by all means...OSFA

I can't believe people still disrespect their own business' this much to have MS Paint wielding marketers do such important creative.

At least show us the logo,
I just want to see what Ms paint can deliver these days, maybe I'll change career

Your client needs to be educated on what good design is and where too consult for it before you continue work.

Give her the "crash course" in logo design that she's asking for, but do it in a way that sends her away crying and discourages her from taking on the project in the first place. First draw it on paper, then scan it using TWAIN plug-ins, clean it up, run it through Illustrator and maybe even Acrobat for added effect. Basically, use every piece of software and hardware you own—all the while pointing out the price of each—to create a logo. Then, say she's on her own and that you believe she'll be able to acquire the right tools to complete the job in a timely manner because she's your little sister.
- Watch her face when you introduce her to bezier curves and the pen tool.monospaced
- And then her boss will say "no no no... use Content Aware Fill, and we'll be done."UKV
- whatever UKV, that doesn't even make any sensemonospaced

'Apparently her boss saw some work she did in MS PAINT and now wants her to design a logo for their company'
I/We want to see what her boss has seen!
- bigtrickagain0
i feel sorry for the design guy.
- bigtrickagain0
but good for your sis though - she must have done something great (despite the tools) to get her boss' attention (:

Amateur sister huh? :p
Like bigtrick might have been getting at: why don't you just let her play around on paper, or MS Paint, and you wrap it up in illustrator? She might get a kick out of seeing her stuff coming together.
