Hi guys,
I have my interview tomorrow at my dream company. I am currently working for Landor since the past one year right after graduation.
The trouble is Im asked to bring my portfolio with my recent work along. They probably want to see the development In the last 1 year. But, I cannot show any of these projects because of their confidentiality issue.
How do I meet these guys with only my school portfolio? ANy suggestions?
Should I tell the prospective companies upfront about this?
Thanks

c'mon guys.... no comment here???

for one moment i thought you wanted to interview me.
anyway, Landor isn't just a small agency, pretty nice work and decent reputation I guess, and you didn't get fired for bad designwork i guess, ask some stuff over at Landor you could show, and some freelance/older work could be ok aswell.
But i'm a newb, so don't listen to me

thanks digdre...

Don't even worry about what you show. They understand confidentiality and probably won't go blabbing about what they saw. They just want to look it over for the few minutes they're with you; they aren't advertising spies looking to use your interview as a reconnaissance mission. Be upfront about the confidence and they'll respect that. You're not publishing your work, you're just giving them a peek.

Well, how confidential is it? I mean, you're not going to leave the work with them or post it online. Can you say, "This work is private so I would appreciate it if it does not go beyond this interview room." Can you do that? Is that dishonest? I'm not sure.

No, I certainly wont be leaving work behind but I am a little scared because one of the senior guys of the firm knows my current boss. Finding out im interviewing with a competitive firm is bad enough, sharing work will mean death.... so confused....please help! Is it not possible that I just go over and talk to them confidently about my past years acheivements. After all they know landors quality of work!
- You seem to have the answers, actually. Don't ask us for legal advice. :)monospaced
- Is this senior guy interviewing you? If he's not, you're in the clear, bro.monospaced
- I hate to say this too, but the last thing you want to do is go blabbing about it on QBN. Word gets around.monospaced
- btw falguni is a girl's name i think, monospaced :Dbigtrickagain
- well, sorry, I now realize that "tom" refers to tomorrow and not her namemonospaced

Contact the people who will be interviewing you and explain the situation in the same way you've explained it here.
I've heard that NDAs feature in a lot of commercial work these days, and this problem (not being able to include work in designers' portfolios) is a known problem within the industry.
The company interviewing you have probably dealt with it in the past, and will be able to offer you decent advice.
They will appreciate you dealing with the matter in a professional way. If you show them the work regardless of an NDA, it might reflect badly on you (if you cheat on yr current employer, you could cheat on them).

Thanks Lukas, thanks a ton!

One thing...
dont post who you are currently working for and asking about interview
- whereRI0
^ agreed
show them the work, tell them its highly confidential, they would appreciate you telling them this as it would be the same if you left their company eventually...
my 2 cents- +1akrokdesign

This is the last place to come to and ask for legal/moral/ethical advice my friend.

Can you take out some offending/revealing content and replace with dummy stuff so you can at least speak to the conceptual ability that you brought to a project? I did that recently...requires more work on your part but might be worth it. You don't want to show work that you shouldn't be showing...particularly to a competitor - it speaks volumes about your integrity.
- i've done this...works for just about anything except identity

Well, let us know how it went.

As long as the company you're interviewing with doesn't know it's under NDA they'll assume it's fine. Just don't leave anything behind, or show anything that is obviously scheduled to come out next month or reveal some big strategic move.

bump. i want to know!
