I am a mess these days with this $ issue, sorry.
Advices on how to apply on abroad jobs? Direct contact/ HR, etc
I have written tons of emails and got good feedbacks, sometimes cost estimates, but 0 work abroad.
I am thinking the employer has problems in hiring a stranger, because of the papers&co

research agencies in the place you want to move to.. contact a few with the notion of relocating
get 3-4 interviews in a few days then go and attend each of them.
repeat.
take a job
move
live happily ever after
well almost
discover crack
spend all your money on crack
lose your friends house and job because of the moreish addiction
discover heroin
make a sign that says 'will use comic sans for smak'
...i could go on.

Mate, I've been 'expat' for the last 5 or 6 years.
Particularly in design, it sucks... reason is, that you have to know your market. If you haven't lived or at least travelled often to where your client wants to sell/promote/etc., you'd be in a very bad position to design a campaign.
Do the following test: go to a comedy club (or watch one in youtube) and see how many jokes/gags you get. That will give you a good idea about how can you perform in another country.
If your role is purely technical -e.g. you are a developer- there's nothing to worry (leaving aside angry dolphins, that is).
