Washing raw denim?

This thread has inspired me. I picked up a pair of raw Wranglers on the weekend. Will let you know in 12 months how they go.
I'd post a picture of my 8 month old Edwins (Red Selvage), but like I said, the dry cleaner made them fade too much.

Here's a site with a load of good examples of worn denim!

Might sound crazy, but you can put in pumice stone and other kinds of stones to make this wear effect happen.

There's a new trend emerging now for raw denim, which is actually to wash it. The whole 'not washing' thing has been replaced by a desire for a more even, washed out look. WGSM did a feature on it saying this...
" Raw denim has, for a long time, been the mainstay of selvedge officionados who have enjoyed the idiosynchratic detailing possible when avoiding the jeans for over a year of regular wear. The look however is now becoming residual, and there is an emerging trend amongst the leading edge of denim-heads to actually wash the raw denim immediately upon purchase. Doing so reveals a different characteristic of the raw denim, one that highlights the warp layer against the overlying weft layer of the characteristic weave, accentuating the cross weave as a regular pattern of miniscule checkerboard blue and silver which has interesting iridescent properties in keeping with other trend keystones for SS2012".

- this new trend you posted seems to fall onto that stlying.. something that looks so bad!!e-pill
- if you use woolite black you can wash as you see fit and never loose colour or styling.e-pill
- the trick is just to not wash it during those times you are breaking it in.. after wash away!e-pill

My oldest pair of selvedge Edwins have been washed twice in 7 years, one of those only because I had an accident. Otherwise, hanging on the line in good sunlight or overnight in the freezer does the trick...
- placing in a plastic bag in the freezer for 2-3 hours works faster than just in freezer alonee-pill

I use Dryel to get the stink out. And almost never wash them. Maybe once a year.
