same thing happened to me, but i had a laptop and now have imac..
also now i have to type in ".com" b4 i never did.. its fucking annoying as i have my laptop next to the imac and if i erase all cache and prefs on both, the laptop you can type in any name for the url and it usually take yo to that url automatically, but on the new imac it takes me to a generic webpage search.if anyone knows why and how to fix that would be amazing.

i wonder if part of the older OS's there was a script that finished the url basic parts.. and now its not in the newer OS.

in the old times, I used the ctrl + return, and it automatically added the www. and the .com, maybe it can help...
