if you fire a client due to them being an asshole, and they assert their intent to decompile your work and take it to someone else to finish?

    They haven't paid.

They think they own the rights, yet the agreement they signed says otherwise.

    Know a good lawyer?

if you fired the client and they take their work to someone else you do not get to collect your $200 or pass go lawyer or not.

.. but perhaps you should contact a lawyer and not QBN.

    but here is my lawyer

no lawyer will take your case - it's worth squat...

... either go after the client in small claims... or suck it up. :(

if you "let go" the client perhaps you can claim unemployment.
but you "fired" them so it will never go anywhere.

    • I think the client can claim unemployment at this time.Sep

let 'em have it. if they're persistant enough to decompile an app and try to rebuild from that, they deserve it. just let karma play itself out, and use the money you would have spent on a lawyer toward a trip to vegas or something.

The 'bad debt' may be deductible from taxes. But if you've walked away from unfinished work, I'm not sure that would be legit.
You should ask a CPA about this kind of stuff.

if they haven't paid you, and you haven't given them anything, then you're both even. you don't need a lawyer.

the only thing lost between 2 parties is time. if they want your files, they have to pay you for the work you've put into is so far.
