damn bro, this movie is really good.Ramanisky2 - Jake is amazing but this character doesn’t have enough depth in the story it just doesn’t fitnb
- Donnie Darko??fooler
- Bro doesn’t even teleport at all in this flickprophetone
- Kind of crazy that this isn't in his top 5. Jarhead, Prisoners, Brothers, Zodiac, Darko.garbage
- ^ he was the best actor by miles in Roadhouse, but still couldn’t make it watchableIanbolton
- Add to list.palimpsest
- Oh right, Jarhead was good.
This and Jarhead are the only Jake Gyllenhaal films I likefuturefood - ^ ummm hello .. have we forgotten Zodiac ?!? One of the best.Ramanisky2

Jim Carrey is a god
- I'm not sure I've ever seen him not making an intentionally ugly face. How did he decide to dedicate his life to that?CyBrainX
- one of his first stand up acts was just him contorting his face on stage. Not sure if it's on YouTube.futurefood

- Its been probably 20 years since I've watched it, can't remember what it was really about.Wordsworth

- My favorite Kubrick. People tend to mention the orgy scene but it’s pretty tame by today’s standards. Fantastic movie about marriage and infidelitynb
- "This pot is making you aggressive!"DaveO
- There's some really interesting BTS chats with people who worked on the film and the 'games' Kubrick would play to get the performances he wanted...Morning_star
- ...Because the Kidman/Cruise relationship was so intense, he'd have them on the set on different days and foster an air of suspicion by talking bullshit to bothMorning_star
- He probably caused their divorcenb

- yes! and especially the moment i heard The Brazilian again after like 20 years of not hearing it and having mind blown, immediately bought the fresh aacprophetone
- not a choon you’re likely to hear out in the world randomly like that, a good choice for the moment in the film imoprophetone
- apparently The Brazilian is used for a magnum prep montage in an episode with frank sinatra as a killer?prophetone
- Goddamn, what a track. By Genesis right?srhadden
- Yep good ole invisible touchprophetone

- Great repeat watch too.misterhow
- The real gem on this soundtrack is the Hall and Oates drop. https://www.youtube.…IDDQDAVE

Watched this a few weeks ago and it is the best psychological thriller i've seen in years.

- this is a fucking great movieoey_oey
- must have watch it like 10 timesoey_oey
- It's so good. Old-school car chases should give the car's suspension a cast credit.garbage
- The Seven-Ups, French Connection, Bullitt. Shit, even Cobra. Something about the bounce and sway is just so satisfying.garbage
- Primal Scream were inspired to make a brilliant album titled... well, "Vanishing Point" https://en.wikipedia…)Krassy

As a teen I was afraid to watch The Vanishing (original 1988 version).
Had been genuinely disturbed by other movies, and Kubrick considering it to be one the most terrifying films he had seen cemented that feeling and my reluctance to watch it.Gave it a go in my 30s and got a bad feeling right from the start, and quickly turned it off haha.
Finally watched it last night on Criterion and it turned out to not at all be the film I had pictured.
Can definitely recommend it if you like thrillers, just stay away from trailers and summaries, they totally spoil it.
- I've watched it as a kid, maybe it would not hit me this hard if I watched is as an adult. Truth is: I've watched it only once, and I still remember it, well...rzu-rzu
- ...the last scenerzu-rzu
- Absolute classic. If you want a weird case study on how directors dumb things down for American markets, watch both. The original goes in this thread.garbage
- The director's own 1993 remake goes in "Suggest a bad movie".garbage
- Totally is a powerful film, I was just surprised at how "welcoming" the form was, very engaging. Was expecting something very dry and hostile.spl33nidoru
- Thanks garbage, def curious about his remake, though it sounds like it could almost ruin the original!spl33nidoru
- Can't ruin the original, but you'll see what I mean.garbage
- I don't really enjoy horror films as much as I used to but from what I recall this was good. It can be interpreted more as a commentary on obsession thanyuekit
- just a standard horror.yuekit
- Agreed. I would say the genius of it is it's a reverse thriller. The villain is immediately exposed, and then watch a man become..garbage
- ..absolutely consumed by some mystery that the viewer has already solved, but somehow still kills you with the ending.garbage

- 1. This should go under "Suggest the Greatest Movie."garbage
- The remake is with Liam Neeson. Should be a blast!Akagiyama
- 2. @gnash I thought you were joking. Liam Neeson?! Miss me with that. That racist fuck's feet can't fill the legend's shoes.garbage
- I'm actually on board with Liam Neeson he's equally intense and low key hilariousprophetone
- One of them talked openly about walking around trying to kill a black man, and the other literally has a fart joke on his tombstone.garbage
- I mean nobody can top Leslie Nielsen but anywayprophetone
- Politics aside, the only things they have in common are initials, gray hair and gravel in the throat. No way Neeson pulls this off.garbage
- Man, imagine condemning someone's work after death bc of a fart joke on their tombstone.cotton
- It will be shit, as I expect the Gyllenhaal Roadhouse remake will also be. Leave the classics alone, put writing before CGI and fuck off while you're doing it.MrT
- @cotton If you think I was condemning Leslie Nielsen in any way, I suggest remedial reading classes.garbage
- He used to sneak a fart machine onto morning shows because he hated doing them, and had "Let 'er rip" on his gravestone. Legend.garbage

The Lawnmower Man - 1992
It's got 007, Jeff Fahey, exploding monkeys, fucked up depictions of Christ, Juliette Lewis' father...You know you love it!
