So I got a bright shiny Mac Pro at work which I am quite happy with...only trouble being, I can't seem to figure out how to plug headphones into the fucking thing and get them to play music.
The help says you have to choose "Headphones" manually in the Sound options part of System Preferences. However, there is no Headphones option showing up. Anyone know what is up with this, or am I just missing something obvious?

Being a mac pro user myself I just found out about hd raid's, adding extra video cards, and creating a esata port for uber fast external hd's. I wish you luck on your ever evolving knowledge on the mac pro.

Uh huh, and click that help icon in the dialog above, and what does it say?
"To listen to external speakers or headphones that are connected to the headphone jack, select Headphones."
But there is no Headphones option even when they are plugged in.
It's OK though, I'll just accept this new soundless reality.

are the headphones plugged in? the option won't come up unless you plug them in.
there's an audio-out jack at the front and the back. try the back one.

on my system preferences, "internal speakers" changes to "headphones" when i plug in to the front jacks.

hey ukit you did plug the headphones in right? they are in fact plugged IN the computer? in the headphones jack? where you put the headphones plug?
- ukit0
what are you guys gonna ask me next, if I have the computer turned on?? Yes, I plugged the fuckers in, and no, there is no headphones option.
The customer support here leaves something to be desired.

Here's a quickstart guide for anyone who wants to comment from now on.
Q: Did you plug the headphones in?
A: Yes
Q: Does the Headphones option show up?
A: No

Hmmm, maybe that's it, it just rejects my headphones. It's really weird that they go to this much trouble with this feature, I sort of liked the old school analog approach.
