a mac can't write to NTFS natively. if you're just using it on a mac, HFS+ is the way to go

i format it to FATTIE FAT FAT right after i bought it just to be safe.
nothing strange has happened yet.

down side with FAT is that it has a 4G max file-size limit

Sorry i meant i formatted it as Mac Os Extended (Journaled)
and it has been working fine transferring file that is bigger than 8g.

yes fixmiller, Fat32 has a max file size limit of 4gb.
bit annoying, but how often do you have files bigger than that?
use http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/… if you need to move files bigger than 4gb

I have probably a 100 files, maybe more, that are larger than 4gb. Shit, my main Outlook file is approaching 10GB now!!
I've had a WD portable external for 2 years now, works flawlessly.
