I'm not a flash user by any stretch although I know the basics and some actionscript.
I'm looking to create a very simple piece where the size of an object (say a circle for example) changes based on external factors from the web (eg the number of tweets containing a certain keyword).
I'd like this to change in real time.3 questions:
1) is this possible, and would it be really difficult
2) is flash even the right thing to build it in, or should it be purely web/programming
3) has anyone got similar examples? I know what I want but don't know if it existsany help would be hugely appreciated, thanks

I'm thinking the word 'dynamic' should have been in my post too, somewhere

show me how then!
are there any basic tutorials out there to explain how to alter an element based on other data?
I wouldn't even know what to search for.
The above links are useful, especially the twitter api.

considering the way your asking the questions:
1) is this possible, and would it be really difficult
a) Yes entirely possible and considering you have little knowledge of programming then yes
2) is flash even the right thing to build it in, or should it be purely web/programming
a) can be done with javascript / processing.js / processing.org too and can still be web based. there are other better opts if not just web based
3) has anyone got similar examples? I know what I want but don't know if it exists
a) no but this might help: http://www.google.co.uk/search?h…- thanks so much, exactly what I needed to know, cheersBaskerviIle

you could use something like flare (an actionScript library for creating visualizations):

I've been playing with processing since yesterday. It seems like just what I need. Just need to more tutorials now (the ones on processing.org are great)
I just want to affect the size and colour of my objects based on certain factors. Seems very doable in processing
