i got a mail last night from old client, asking about job today, availability etc. I moved another job around to work on this one because I like to keep this relationship going. This was my choice, I know that.

Mailed this morning, took a while but got mail back confirming job and budget. Not best money but again, I wanted to keep it going. It was a simple job, doing some boards or style frames for a director I have worked with many times before.

deadline was 7pm today. They sent some rough boards and a script ( they are different from eachother) at about noon.
I mailed back to ask which they wanted me to board(script or rough boards) and if they wanted shot boards or client type style boards. no reply. I mailed to ask when i would get a style brief. no reply. i mailed to say time is running out, i need to start can someone please tell me what they want me to do. no reply. i mailed at 3 pm and said I dont think I can physically make a 6/7pm deadline if they want 20 client style boards. no reply. I eventually got a call at 3:30 to say that (from producer) she isnt with holding information, she just doesnt have it. and being a bit aggressive. I said, look ive been tryin to get a brief all day, all that im doing now is informing you that we wont make a deadline. (assuming that they wanted those kinds of boards)

she said the director would call me shortly and tell me what he needed. no worries, about the slick look stuff just help him with sketches etc. ok fine i say, thats do-able for sure. he calls an hour later. asks what ive doing for it, i thought you would tell me what you need i say. he asks the producer in bg what i was supposed to be doing, he says he doesnt know, whatever really, if the director needed some sketches or something. no he says, he is fine, he will do them if he needs. great. job dead.

im sick of waiting for clients and shit. last week the same thing. finishin off job for client and they just dont reply or pick up calls and then last minute panic to make deadline as if its your fault.

people need to get there shit together and stop wasting my fuckin time.

anyway, doubt anyone will read this but i needed to vent.

I agree on wasting time being unacceptable but their is nothing like a good old telephone call to get things moving...

    don't work with them anymore.
i had to cut a freelance client off last week. not a good feeling, but it was eating up all my time and they weren't willing to pay for extra hours spent on a job.

i was subcontracting for an email marketing job once and they had a 3pm deadline for publication, i called and called all day trying to speak to the art director at the agency ... in the end i called the client, the job got done then i got chewed out for contacting the client directly... go figure.
