Probably Super Furry Animals supported by Grandaddy in about 1997. Great sound and lots of SFA madness.
Or These Animal Men (http://www.last.fm/music/These... at a small pub venue about the same time.

Man or Astro-man?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Man…As I recall the show was around 2001 or 2002. Entrance cost $3. The music and abandon with which they played was really invigorating. The first encore? A piece performed with a dot-matrix printer. Second encore? A LIGHTNING MACHINE! Never has three dollars been better spent.
Ok. You say it's about the "concerts" and not the "shows" but when you're standing in a crowd just 5 feet from the band and their roadie runs out and pushes everyone back to establish some level of safety before the lightning machine is rolled out between us and the "stage" and starts shooting bolts of electricity around the room . . . that feels pretty big to me.

Oh wait !
How could I forget about seeing Kraftwerk at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City? It was around 2004 or 5 perhaps? And about a month later I got to see Devo there too! (And for free because I snuck in after the show started and found my way to some box seats!!)

The Mars Volta / Les Savy Fav @ Manchester Uni about 8 years ago. TMV's first UK tour, in support of Les Savy Fav. With original line-up inc female bassist and the (now) dead dude. Tiny venue, no security, knees against the edge of the stage, about a foot from the band. Singers of both bands in the crowd, dancing on the bar etc.
Dude from Les Savy Fav ended up tying up a photographer with his mic lead, stealing photographer's camera, then taking shitloads of photos of the dude while he was tied up. All 3 bands ended up on the stage at the end of LSF's set, along with half the crowd.
Joanna Newsom at the Sage a few years ago a close second.

since someone already posted TOOL as their best concert I'll say my best "show".
Janes Addiction opening for Iggy Pop, 1987. No one knew who Janes Addiction was at the time so we got up right against the stage while all the old punk rockers sat at the bar and waited for Iggy.
No fancy lights or lasers just Perry in a girdle, fish net stockings, fingerless dish washing gloves, welding goggles and dreads.
Dave Navarro was so smacked out he just sat on his amp the entire time even during his smoking solos.
