  I added a second drive to my old G5 tower over a year ago. Did the drive have some Jumpers that you have to place specifically for the mac?
  I think the way I worked around it all (not sure if I did it correctly but the machine runs well and has been for over a year) I installed OSX on the new drive, made it the starter, transferred from the old, and then cleaned out the original drive. Of course, back up everything cause you ain't no dummy.
