Just replaced the hard drive in my (old) G5 power mac... Had it all set up by the mac support guy at work got it home stuck it in the slot (put the old one in slot B) and now I have no power - the light doesn't even flash and no noise what so ever...
Starting to panic as I am f**ked if it is f**ked...
Any body no anything that could shed some light on the problem.
Here's hoping!

I killed a motherboard with my own static, but that was ages ago I believe it was one for a 386 processor...

Is OS X actually installed on that new drive of yours?
Put the old one back in slot a, new one in slot b and let er boot up, then check the new drive in disk utility...

check your serial number with apple, there was a power supply problem with certain G5s, they actually extended the warranty on them because it was so common. at this point you may be out of luck, but it's worth a try.

Id be asking that "mac support guy at work"!

if it won't even power on, it's likely the power supply. even if the motherboard or drives are fucked, it'll at least try to turn on and boot and get all flashy with the light on the front

If its an early G5 you can try pressing the SMU button to reset your power supply

you have to do a ceremonial fap all over the keys and screen and chat out loud that enigma track from the late 90s while in front of your neighbor's wife.
then your mac should work like having that brand new car smell.
fap hard!!

I added a second drive to my old G5 tower over a year ago. Did the drive have some Jumpers that you have to place specifically for the mac?
I think the way I worked around it all (not sure if I did it correctly but the machine runs well and has been for over a year) I installed OSX on the new drive, made it the starter, transferred from the old, and then cleaned out the original drive. Of course, back up everything cause you ain't no dummy.Good luck.

Best thing is to get the Mac guy involved if its still not working. To reiterate above, if nothing is lighting up/spinning round then it sounds like a power supply issue, (make all changes / test when switched off at wall)
Check lead plugged in at both ends and switched on at wall, voltage setting is correct, remove new drive and reinstate original taking care to seat correctly and taking static precautions.
Does any of this help? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT13… Did you use the right cable?
