are you fucking kidding me? tell prices? really? well, no. I will quote your services as soon as you have provided me with materials to work from for review. A little show me you're interested and I'll communicate back. I'm showing you my hand to go compare and use as leverage against some other designer. In fact how did you get my number who gave it to you? reminds me not to answer their calls anymore.

he isn't looking me to quote him now idiot, just an idea of how much previous developments I have done the brochures for, I don't see any harm in telling him what they cost, each one had has a budget of over 10 grand

I personally wouldn't do it. Why would he care about a project you billed for in 2006? The price will never be the same!
Besides, I don't know about you, but sometimes I have quoted projects based on the job and client. Can't charge the same for a local yoga shop and a builder...

    • agreed, needs dictate cost if there is no set budgetidiots

People in our industry are so poorly educated in the business side of things, which unfortunately is what they'll end spending 60% or more of their time handling. This is where AIGA and many of the other organizations fail.

    • haha, Speaking of poorly educated...excuse my typos, etc.Josev

thats what I'm getting at. The prices will always be dearer than a few years ago, paper costs, etc... but it will give him a better understanding of how much this will cost. Think I'll just send him the sample print work and tell him that if he wants to have a chat about what he needs then I'll meet up with him to discuss, always better to see their first reaction when they start hearing how much design really costs. And hey! If he doesn't like it his secretary can sort it out in word or in pages on her new ipad.

The way I have always looked at brochure design for a development of houses at over £250k is that a house is the most expensive thing you'll ever buy then your car and so forth.

So the brochure should have the same quality of design and finish as a Jaguar brochure for example to impress the house buyer.
