Is there any way to quickly preview only what's on the artboard in illustrator?

A lot of times I have elements that flow over the edges and have to resort to making clipping masks which can get to be annoying. The only solution I've found so far is enlarging the navigator panel an setting it to "View artboard contents only" but it's not exactly ideal.

Might want to start organizing your shit, use layers and sets...

Dunno - I've always made a full-canvas sized white vector with the artboard area knocked out, as the topmost layer.

Saving as PDF is the neat way, but there's probably some faster way. It'd be neat if there was a "preview current artboard" setting thrown in somewhere.

detritus - I do that a lot too. Was just wondering if there was a quick and easy way to achieve the same thing.

    • what if you have hidden layers or hidden objects that are on the artboard?e-pill1/3
Well that's fine. All I'm meaning is during the process I do this just to hide everything that's not on the artboard for preview purposes. When It comes to final output of course then I'd tidy everything upshapeaspect2/3

When you show outlines (command-Y) it shows everything, yes?

I hardly ever use just the artboard area, and if I do it's tiled 8.5x11 pages on a big 100"x100" artboard
