Wondering if anyone has advanced sharpening tools/plugins/techniques/tips they prefer over the standard unsharp mask or "bicubic sharpening" setting when sizing images down.
My big discovery is that if I size down in 50% increments, it yields a better result than otherwise. Anyone else? Whatcha got?

i like to oversharpen the image at full size then res down with standard bicubuc. the bicubic-sharper doesnt do a very good job.

read this:
http://www.wired.com/magazine/20…- interesting findings. I like how some commenters refute parts of the theory.Kiino
- i think some of the commenters have subtly misinterpreted the technique involved.bigtrickagain
- it's like they're talking about the megazooms they do on the CSI TV show all the time...wasn't there a thread about that?Kiino

I'm trying to figure out how some website image loaders do a pretty good job of turning a medium res image into a fairly sharp 50x50px image. But when I try doing it myself in PS, it inevitably looks freakin soft.
- helps to simplify the imagemonospaced
- most commonly this is ImageMagick, probably "nearest neighbor" interpolationacescence

i like using the smart sharpen filter in photoshop - strength at 50%, radius usually set to some sub-pixel level. 0.2 or 0.3 works well for me for sharpening 8mp photos that have been downsampled to 800px or so wide.

Anyone have any good/bad results from using the Nik software?
