  Just installed 2.9 to muck around. Everything seemed to go OK and the actual blog page displays fine - I can login to the admin section no problem - but in the admin area, there is no link or button to create a new post or really do anything other than update my profile.

  Anyone have an idea what may be happening?

  Sounds like you messed it up.
  Delete everything.
