Hi everyone I'm fairly new to the development game. I build the site. http://claytoneedham.com/lines/
But when I test it in IE 6 everything is backwards.
Can someone tell me what is wrong with how I have coded the site?
Why does IE 6 throw everything upside down?

Have you tried removing the absolute positioning on your container?
- Claymantis0
nope, i will try

It's not just IE6. Your site is completely broken in many sites.

Everything seems to be skewed. I'm guess I should not use absolute positioning...
- dMullins0
Absolute positioning is only the beginning.
- Claymantis0
Ok. Is there any kind of guide you can give me?

I would start by giving your body a margin: 0 auto; Then remove the text-align:center; from the body, and if you're going to use any absolute positioning, put it inside a parent div that has a position:relative;

absolute positioning can work but it is not recommended for a full site layout only for certain "objects" (if it's well implemented it shouldnt give you cross brownser problems), btw this is erroneous: margin: 0px auto;(for the body)
- how is that? text-align:center is for centering text, not creating balanced margins.waynomatic
- yes and waht does margin 0 auto got to do with a fixed element as the body ?spraycan
- did I say it has to do with the fixed element? According to his css, it looked like he was using the text-centering to center a div object. I was merely suggesting a fix for that.waynomatic
- div object. I was merely suggesting a list of fixes for various things.waynomatic
- yes like this one:
I would start by giving your body a margin: 0 auto;spraycan - guaranteed that this will center a container div right in the middle of a screen. After that, if he wants to use absolute positioning, he just has to put a relative position inside the parent div. it works.waynomatic
- absolute positioning, he just has to put a relative position inside the parent div. it works.waynomatic
- yes but it's better to give to the container the 0 auto property.spraycan
- you're missing the point. Look at example I posted.waynomatic

you should check those layout, find the one that suit your actual configuration and start building on that:

those layout are not the best but they are good for starting

if you want to absolute position objects, but still auto center your website, use margin:0 auto.

@waynomatic I agree with your suggestion. I find that Dynamic drive is very deprecated information most the time, but does provide some good insight on some situations.
