    • yeah def not fashionableinkpink1/56
its funny but does anyone know what the bungee on the face of the bag is for?e-pill2/56
as a bag designer we know the general public has no idea what its usage is for..e-pill3/56
wondering what the design community thinks what its usage is?e-pill4/56
bungee is for stuffing shit in, traditionally a helmet, not really big enough on this baginkpink5/56
it's pretty ugly - but it works well as a bag. the bungy can be pretty handy, I've used it for jackets in the summer, newspapers - heard it's also meant for cycle helmets.lukus_W6/56
newspapers - heard it's also meant for cycle helmets.lukus_W7/56
helmuts you say.. did you ever measure a helmut?? and then measure that bungee area??e-pill8/56
the reality is that most bag designers themselves dont know what its usage is for..e-pill9/56
a helmut would never fit in that tiny space.. it is really a eye catcher to the consumer.e-pill10/56
i dunno might fit - or a water bottle maybe??lukus_W11/56
it will catch your eye when your shopping for a bag.. its a visual gimmick.. nothing more.e-pill12/56
it has come in useful when I'm on a bike .. get to stash stuff on the go.lukus_W13/56
as a bag designer i hate to use anything that serves no functionality or purpose..e-pill14/56
there is 2 side water bottle pockets on this pack as it is..e-pill15/56
not saying that its not used.. just saying its purpose is never used for what its for.e-pill16/56
this is a great bag.. for the consumer, however the price is not..e-pill17/56
it absolutely is for stuffing helmet and climbing gear... long before backpacks became street fashioninkpink18/56
i assume this bag retails for $79.99 if not more.. the cost on this is around $13.50e-pill19/56
yeah, I can totally see what you meanlukus_W20/56
probably even less, maybe $11-12 .. so think of that markup price you are shelling out for this.. under $20 pack!e-pill21/56
the lil loop under the front center pocket is for climbing gear..e-pill22/56
in an urban environment this serves no purpose other than an additional carry handle..e-pill23/56
i love to see features like that used for urban markets.. it feels soo displaced..e-pill24/56
epill sorry i live in backpack land vancouver bc and i can tell you that all these features serve a purpose in backcountryinkpink25/56
backpack manufacturers here have been using these same features since the 70'sinkpink26/56
when a parent is shopping for their kids and see this pack they see that extra carry strap.e-pill27/56
they then buy it.. they see the front bungee and see their kids using it.. they buy it!!e-pill28/56
i love it!! parents are stupid!!
      haha!!!
      e-pill29/56
inkpink yes in backpack country these feature server very specific identities.e-pill30/56
however the larger market for the packs is not backpack country as it is urban setting.e-pill31/56
the usage of these features will never be used for their intended directions.e-pill32/56
this is why as a backpack designer myself [last 14 years] i laugh when i see its misuse.e-pill33/56
also this pack is not designed or intended for the backpack country... its for urban marketse-pill34/56
this pack has the features similar to those used for hiking, mountain climbing etc..e-pill35/56
those features are dummied down and re-designed to mimmic the looks...e-pill36/56
...of their counter parts that are made for that environment. the bungee on this face isnt for anything..e-pill37/56
this is the big joke in the bag community.. make gimmicks and it will sell..e-pill38/56
this is one of NorthFace's top selling pack.. and for a reason..e-pill39/56
its a great bag.. with features that are nopt intended for that reality usage..e-pill40/56
this doesnt mean you can use it for any usage.. just use it at your own risk..e-pill41/56
another huge gimmick on this pack is the secondary top front drop pocket.e-pill42/56
this pocket has water proof zippers, yet the pack itself is not water proof..e-pill43/56
the usage of that zipper will bring the price of the bag a lot!!e-pill44/56
you take out that zipper.. make it a regular one.. and the price drops to its cost pricee-pill45/56
northface uses this gimmick for their urban markets retail marketing. they do it wel!!e-pill46/56
      Jesus. =)elahon47/56
so what do you do e-pill?
      :)
      Meeklo48/56
      That's great to carry tripod.ItalianStallion49/56
what? you guys don't carry your crampons and ice axe with you on the train? what if it get's icy?monNom50/56
meeklo i work for small manufactures in the mass market.. i make cheap bags..e-pill51/56
the style of the brands i work for are have lower price point retails.e-pill52/56
i am usually given a high priced marked up suped up bpack like this...e-pill53/56
i have to then cheapen its function but still retain the look..e-pill54/56
i understand the breakdown of a product and know how to price it out n make it saleablee-pill55/56
thats what i do.. love me or hate me.. i dont care anymore...e-pill56/56
