fuck it, i'd do it were i not most of the planet away.
i love the attitude, people will happily chest beat and ego buff themselves on a forum, broadcasting their self important opinions. yet give them a chance to speak their mind, and actually get a few bucks + dinner and all of a sudden their opinions are worth gold apparently. fucking douchebags (and i don't mean adobe here).

Hmm I've done a bit of web usability testing before, it's good stuff, so I'd definitely do this. I Can't see what there is to complain about, though.
How else do you actually expect them to improve the indispensable software that everyone (myself included) bitches about all fuckin day.

Hmmm... Here's an idea. Who else here is a programmer? And who has a rich uncle? Because I think with a little bit of money, a good workspace, and a bumpin playlist we could build a light-weight Ruby and Javascript based replacement for InDesign no problem. Saves file data in a compressed JSON format, an open spec that we make very public so other groups can build their own add-ons or competing apps. Isn't Ruby just for web stuff? Nope. It's a really malleable language that ships with OS X so if you're a Mac user you already have it installed.
Wait. Shouldn't a "real" app be built in C++, Objective-C, or some statically-typed language that gets compiled for a specific hardware / OS? Fair point. That approach has a real track record for building speedy apps. But Ruby is much more elegant than C. When picking a sans serif you don't just reach for Comic Sans do you? No. You do not. (I hope.) You pick the thing that's elegant. And hey, if Quark 1.0 could run on computers in 1987 we can build a stripped down Ruby-based replacement that runs smoothly on today's machines. That's a start.
Yea, I know. A little home brew group might be able to store some vector data and text, but really how does that stack up against InDesign? Illustrator? And how would you ever beat Photoshop? I don't know. Probably not so well for the first year or two. But man... How sweet would it be to try? And it's not like I have something against Adobe. I've relied on their software for years. It's enabled me to make some really cool stuff. But I think it's time for a new era.

Adobe can fuck off, CS4 is a step backwards you retard cunts. Yet I can't run CS3 on snow leopard. Oh and while I'm at it apple you're cunts too why the fuck did you make the dvi port smaller so I have to spend £17 on a new fucking wire to connect my monitor. Wankers, all of you.
Cheers.
Set- They have a cord for that now?Glitterati_Duane
- I have a brand new monitor that's basically uselessGlitterati_Duane
- I run CS3 on Snow Leopard. Adobe just said they wouldn't be testing it. But otherwise I concur.technikiller

Haha, I actually went to one of these sessions back when I was a student in San Francisco. I wouldn't do it again.

Steve Jobs calls them lazy.

If Apple released a image editing app that did even just the basics that photoshop offers, adobe would be done for.
I think i use crop, image size, levels, curves, stamp, autolevel (struggling here), and the filters (which can be 3rd party anyway)
- Why wait for Apple? There's have to be tons of apps that do that.TheFatBaron
- yep but system levelmust_dash
- it could even be an iPhoto update, the way that program works alreadymonospaced
- assuming you meant clone stamp, wouldn't you want layers to go with that?rascuache

They're paying to talk about your work flow as to help them with making the products that you use everyday better, not to actually do work. Its a chance to tell all of your likes and dislikes which I have a full list of. If they were here in Philly I'd probably do it for free, but the light dinner is a nice touch. I think it's a good opp to put some thoughts in as well as NETWORK!!! If any of you are in the SF area, I'd recommend going.

WTF is wrong with this ad, in my opinion, is that $25 per hour, in the San Francisco market, is way below industry average for market research for working "professionals."
Qualitative firms base their renumeration on, among other things, how much their respondents earn and how difficult it is to pull them away from their work, and scale up from that. If you are in San Francisco and freelancing and charging $25 per hour you are starving. If you are in San Francisco and employed full-time, its highly unlikely $25 will entice you to use a personal day / vacation day, call in sick or whatever is required to participate. What you have left are students and the unemployed.
The amount that they are offering for respondents reflects either either a lack of regard for their customers (ie. This is likely what Dominoes paid general-public respondents in Tulsa Ok) or (and this is more likely ) Is that it reflects the attitude of a monopoly who is comfortable with their position in the market. Its someones job to do market research...so they do it rote.
They are just "going through the motions" and none of that market research will result in any real substantial changes in the products.
And considering the amount of Flash hate out there right now? And the existence of http://dearadobe.com/?
I think they have problems they are not willing (or able) to address.
- Ha. Last freelance offer I had in SF they acted like they were doing me a favor offering me $25 instead of $20...Bargels

Whoever does it.... get a damn *package feature in Illustrator already
- powertoni0
And Airey, My opinion here has nothing to do with thinking my opinions are worth more than $25. They're not...my time however is. I witness market research every single day. You can tell the companies who take it seriously, and the ones who are doing it as an artifact of bureaucracy.
Im sure you are probably a nice guy in real life....I thought only americans didnt get irony

It says $50

+ dinner.
shit, it's a better offer than the online surveys a million company's ask you to fill in and all you get is some nigerian war criminal knocking on your front door 3 months later.
